Day 10 - Niagara and Skylon Tower Riot

Day 10 - Niagara and The Skylon Tower Riot

I figured I better to two days worth of vacation because Wendy would have nightmares of this day and not be able to finish it without getting "why didn't Sheldon just listen to me" in there. See below for the full (Sheldon's version) story.

Niagara falls.
This poor gal never read those warnings on bags to not put them over your head. I think she was suffocating. So I took a picture of her and then helped here out. She really thought she was a goner because later she said that we all looked really blue...I think that had something to do with the sack.
I did not take this picture because it was of some of the youth in our group, nope. I took it because it thought it was funny that they were all wearing the same blue shirt and apparently didn't know it. They really stood out. Poor kids probably get picked on at school too.
Okay, so apparently those blue shirt things that I was talking about....everyone was wearing them so Wendy and I got some too just so we would not be the odd balls. Nothing like giving in to peer pressure.
Okay, so here is the story of the day. This is the Skylon Tower. We were suppose to go to the top, take a few pictures and then be on our way and at the hotel by 7. Well we got there and the lady at the ticket counter told us that it would be best if we just waited for about 10 minutes or so because someone had pulled the fire alarm earlier and they were just getting things back under control. No sweat. So we waited and in 10 minutes we got our tickets and got in line. We were detoured to "elevator 3" because "that will get you up there faster" is what we were told. while standing in line with everyone else Wendy started to get a little nervous and said that she didn't want to go up there. I didn't understand why and she said that everyone coming out of the elevator from the top were not smiling. I thought that sounded weird so I did my best to talk her out of it. She mentioned how she didn't like crowds and we had heard that up top was a little crowded. I assured here that everything was fine but when I walked into the elevator she cut out of line and decided to stay there. So up I went. WOW.
I got out of the elevator and the top was in full riot mode. Seriously. No lie. Apparently elevator three would get us to the top faster because it was THE ONLY ELEVATOR WORKING. The other two were out of commission sense the fire alarm. So there were all these people at the top who had been waiting for more than an hour to get down. The poor elevator operator couldn't have been older than 15 and when he let us off he tried to go down without taking anyone and that is when the riot happened. Imagine a crowd of spanish speaking tourist waving their fingers and chanting no no no while pushing to the elevator. It was scary.
The line to get down was wrapped all the way around the top and it was a nightmare. We couldn't use the stairs because we were told that that was a fire hazard???? I guess in the US we put the stair in case of a fire but in Canada their stars ARE the fire hazard.
So I took a few pictures and got right in line. Everyone kept asking where Wendy was and I told them that she didn't come because she had a feeling not too. Well she didn't have the cell phone so there was no way I could contact her to tell here that I would be a few hours up top.
Anyways we were sort of sneaky. One of the other tour directors found a stair case that dropped three levels to the dinning area where the elevator would make a stop and were there were no crowds. So we snuck down there and formed a line. We were seen though by the angry mod at the top and when about 75 of them followed us down to that dining area the man in charge took them right back up...but he let us stay.
That only made it worst. When the elevator opened up to let in the ten kids in front of me the whole elevator, full of people who had been waiting for more than an hour adn realizing what we had just done went nuts. They were pushing our kids out of the elevator and trying to make us stay there. The kids just pushed back, the doors shut and there was a pushing match all the way down. I am glad that the kids didn't understand Spanish.
I finally got down but the other half of our group was stranded at the top and they were not allowed to come down like we did. So we waited and waited and waited.
We finally got down, got our tickets refunded and took off to the hotel. We were suppose to be there at 7 but finally got in after 11 at night. It was crazy.

OH you guys! I would be soo livid! I would hate that! Good job Wendy, way to follow your instincts. And common sense if you ask me.... she saw that the people coming down were not happy. So... Sheldon, you might want to listen to her more often huh?!
